(WJLA) - Nearly half of the security breaches in federal computer systems across all agencies are caused by agency employees themselves, a new report has revealed.
Federal Times cites a study from MeriTalk, a government IT provider, which says that 49 percent of cyber breaches at federal agencies are committed by federal workers who are trying to visit websites, check their email and download files.
The high percentages are likely a byproduct of the strong security measures government agencies place on their computer systems. Federal Times reports that 69 percent workers surveyed say that their work takes longer because of the cybersecurity protocols installed in their computer systems.
