As sequestration-related furloughs begin at numerous government agencies this week, the latest in a long line of offices to enforce unpaid leave is the IRS, according to Federal News Radio.
The cuts at the IRS are dramatic. Every employee - nearly 90,000 of them - at the agency will be furloughed for five days. The agency will nearly shut down entirely on May 24, June 14, July 5, July 22 and August 30, Federal News Radio says.
"We wanted to make sure there is only one furlough day a pay period, and we have also worked to stagger the dates further so that there are some pay periods during the summer with no furlough days," IRS Acting Commissioner Steven Miller said in an email to staff.
