A group of lawmakers from both sides of the aisle are coming together to complete a bill that would make sure federal workers receive back pay for time missed during the government shutdown.
Federal News Radio's Jack Moore reports that a pair of Virginia representatives, Jim Moran and Frank Wolf, introduced an act late Monday night that would ensure that employees who are both working without pay and not working at all would receive their full paychecks after the government reopens.
"Employees at the FBI, DEA and U.S. Marshals Service shouldn't be punished because the Congress couldn't get its job done," Rep. Wolf said in a statement.
Up to 1 million federal workers may end up being furloughed indefinitely during the shutdown.
