President Barack Obama put forth Friday a proposal to raise the salary of federal workers by 1 percent, a move that would end a pay freeze that lasted for three years.
The president sent his proposal to Congress on Friday, saying that the pay increase is part of an effort to "keep our nation on a sustainable fiscal course," Federal News Radio reports.
President Obama hinted at the idea of ending the pay freeze in April, when his proposed budget included the raise, which would go into effect. Jan. 1.
Congress can still spike the pay increase when it comes back into session next week.
