      Federal furlough appeals being heard again after brief agency delay

      The small government agency tasked to hear the appeals of tens of thousands of federal furloughs is finally getting to work clearing its backlog after its work temporarily stopped due to the crush.

      Federal News Radio reports that the Merit Systems Protection Board is steadily working to hear upwards of 30,000 appeals from federal employees who had received furlough notices due to sequestration.

      It's a far cry from the number the MSPB is used to receiving, which hovers around 7,000.

      In early August, GovExec reported that the board had temporarily stopped hearing appeals while it figured out a way to keep up with the enormous demand.
