A move to expand the digital system that verifies employment eligibility for people in the United States has been voted down, Federal Computing Weekly says.
The bid to expand the government's e-Verify system was quashed late last week in a Senate committee. It would have required all U.S. employers to implement e-Verify within a year and a half of passage of any immigration legislation.
Those who voted against it told FCW that implementing the program within 18 months would be impossible.
