For decades, Americans have had sneaking suspicions about the existence of the mysterious Area 51 in Nevada - a secret government facility that many believed was linked to the search for aliens and extraterrestrial creatures.
While a recently declassified government report doesn't confirm the existence of aliens, it does, for the first time, acknowledge that Area 51 does exist.
The documents, which were obtained and published by George Washington University's National Security Archive, are believed to be the first to overtly mention Area 51. They were released as part of a Freedom of Information Act request for information about the history of the U-2 spy plane.
Those records mention Area 51 several times and identify it as located in southern Nevada, northwest of Las Vegas.
