The Pet Show preview - Feb. 16, 2013
On The Pet Show this week, we've got some big hitters!
First up from Food & Water Watch, we've got Tony Corbo, the senior lobbyist for the food-related legislative and regulatory issues that come before Congress and the Executive Branch. Tony is talking to us about the huge issues we've seen with foods and treats being imported from China.
Since 2000, the amount of pet food imported from China has skyrocketed, increasing from about 100,000 pounds to nearly 86 million pounds in 2011.Pet food imports from China | Create infographics
This is a huge topic, Tony will have to come back and finish our discussion very soon. Send us any questions you may have for his next appearance!
Next, Steve Pelletier joins us from My Slim Doggy. A former software executive, Steve created Slim Doggy to help his dog Jack, formerly an unadoptable Labrador with major behavioral issues, to drop some pounds after he was adopted.
Steve is passionate about health and fitness for both people and pets, their new SlimDoggy App can help you to manage your dog's caloric intake and exercise program, and help to achieve a more appropriate weight for your pet.
From now until April 13, 2013, for every 'SlimDoggy' t-shirt sold, $3.00 will be donated to the Washington Humane Society's Fashion for Paws, and for every measuring cup sold, $1.00 will be donated. Use the promotion code DRKATY13 to ensure the donation gets made!
Bobby Mahoney and JJ Kelly, co-chairs of the St. Patrick's Day Parade and Fun Dog Show in Alexandria join us to officially invite us all to come out to Old Town on March 2nd for a fun day to benefit Lucky Dog Animal Rescue.
Dr. Katy will be the Mistress of Ceremonies and Judge of the Fun Dog Show, so you know it'll be a lively day. For more information, go to www.ballyshaners.org!
Finally, Dr. Dan Shillito from the Washington Animal Rescue League joins us with the amazingly Adorable Adoptable "Betty Boop!" Dr. Shillito talks to us about the income-qualified clinic at WARL and how their clinic actually helps to keep animals in their forever homes.
