The 3 C's of The Pet Show: Congressmen, champagne and cake
It's the one-year anniversary of The Pet Show this week and we're celebrating with all new guests, and a trip down memory lane!
Representative John Campbell, R-CA, joins us this week to tell us about his role as the Co-Chair of the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus. Rep. Campbell is a lifelong animal lover, and fights passionately, both in life, as well as on the floor of the House of Representatives, for both domesticated animals and wildlife.
Rep. Campbell will be honored on Saturday, April 13 at Washington Humane Society's Fashion for Paws with the Humane Hero Award for his outspoken support of rescue animals and animal rights. Tickets are still available at www.fashionforpaws.org if you'd like to be there for Rep. Campbell's honor and the rest of the fun!
Zoom Room Rockville's owner Steve Mulder comes on the show to tell us all about their new dog training facility and "Canine Social Club!"
The 2,739-square-foot facility is a sporty indoor dog gym that will offer pet owners dog training classes both in small groups and in private one-on-one sessions using positive reinforcement. Activities will include coaching in agility, obedience and scent discrimination as well as therapy instruction, puppy preschool, scent tracking, and shy dog training.
For very active dog owners, Zoom Room offers a Canine Cross Training class that gives not only the pooches a workout, but the owners too!
In addition to group and private classes, Zoom Room serves as a dedicated event center for dog birthday parties, which will include Zoom Room’s famous Doggy Disco® nights that feature laser light shows, charitable fundraisers and other canine events.
Zoom Room also offers the perfect alternative to the dog park with its affordable “private gym” sessions in its immaculate, spacious and game-filled gym. D.C.-area dog owners will also enjoy the carefully-curated selection of solution-oriented pet retail products, including training gear, all-natural treats, eco-friendly toys and puzzles, and hand-crafted leather leashes.
We also have the opportunity to meet Megan Webb, the new Executive Director of the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. Megan served as the Director of Oakland Animal Services in Oakland, Calif. for the past 3 years, but is excited to take on this new role in Alexandria.
While in that role, Webb significantly improved the care of the shelter’s animals, increased the number of animal adoptions/transfers, and led her team of Animal Control Officers to investigate and rescue animals from multiple felony abuse cases. Here in the D.C. area, Webb says that she is impressed with Alexandrians’ compassion and activism, and plans to harness that energy to assist more animals in need.
Stick around for Dr. Katy's tribute to her amazing staff, her own pups, and to you...the fans of The Pet Show! Cheers to more years to come!
