Today's award-winning presentation of the pop-culture world finds a rather noted awards show and its rather noted new host, a major power play, many other things, and the mystery music video.
A VOCAL HOST: Of the Academy Awards, per the Los Angeles Times, "Seth MacFarlane is best known for his vocal talents and raunchy sense of humor, and not necessarily in that order. So it's a bit of a shock that the man behind the "Family Guy" series and host of Charlie Sheen's roast on Comedy Central was cast to headline the 2013 Oscar telecast.
But that was exactly what Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the show's producers, were looking for. "The idea that by announcing the host you don't even know what the show will be at this stage is really exciting," said Zadan, noting he's been a fan of MacFarlane's diverse talents for years." http://lat.ms/VaPHIv
'REALLY?': This is funny, per the New York Times, "Civilization crumbles a little bit almost every time I turn on the television, and a single word-and-punctuation-mark combination is inflicting the damage. You've heard it too, no doubt, and if you're a person who values grace and urbanity and eating with utensils rather than burying your face in the plate, you've winced whenever some TV character has spewed it. It's the snarky "Really?," and it's undoing 2,000 years' worth of human progress." http://nyti.ms/QG4x73
NEWLYWEDS: And what exactly is the big deal?, per TV Newser, "MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts was married to longtime partner Patrick Abner in New York over the weekend. The ceremony and reception was held at the Gansevoort Park Avenue rooftop, with California Lt. Governor (and Current TV host) Gavin Newsom officiating." http://bit.ly/OAXlKO
REMEMBER HER?: That would be Oprah, per indieWIRE, "In a deal that represents a coming together of two of the most powerful African-Americans in the entertainment industry, Oprah Winfrey's OWN has signed Tyler Perry to create the network's first scripted series. In a release that went out Monday, OWN announced its plans to launch two new shows in mid-2013 from the insanely successful and prolific actor-director-writer-producer -- he'll executive produce, write and direct both." http://bit.ly/Szb0NY
KIMMEL'S COUP: And there's telling what might happen, per Rolling Stone, "Axl Rose has agreed to a very rare television interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote the upcoming Guns N' Roses shows at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Axl will appear on the show on Wednesday, October 24th. As is customary with the Kimmel show, the interview will be broadcast on a one-hour tape delay." http://bit.ly/Sw7M1n
ACROSS THE POND: USA! USA!, per The Hollywood Reporter, "Taylor Swift and No Doubt will help bring an American accent to this year's MTV European Music Awards in Frankfurt, Germany. Also headlining the evening of European nod giving will be the British global stadium rock band Muse." http://bit.ly/UDFeAT
THIS COULD BE AWKWARD: Or maybe not, per People, "Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have been spending more and more time together privately - and now we know when they will be making their first public appearances together as well. The pair, who play onscreen husband and wife in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, are scheduled to start promoting the final movie in the Twilight series in Los Angeles on Oct. 28 in Los Angeles, Summit Pictures confirmed to PEOPLE." http://bit.ly/O2nzUV
MIDNIGHT SNACK: And strange games, per The Wrap, "Danny Strong has been selected to write the final two installments of "The Hunger Games" for Lionsgate, according to an individual with knowledge of the studio's plans. No papers have been signed, but Strong, who won two 2012 Emmys for his work on HBO's "Game Change," is the studio's choice - though the studio declined to comment on the record." http://bit.ly/SA5Xfz
YOUR CHEATIN' HEART: This is so high school, per E!, "Brittany Kerr wants out of the crossfire. Just a day after Jason Aldean admitted to cheating on his wife, Jessica Ussery, Kerr, the former American Idol contestant seen kissing him in a crowded Sunset Strip bar has deleted her Twitter account. Aldean has publicly apologized for "embarrassing my family and myself" and "disappointing" his fans." http://eonli.ne/Vb6b3t
SHE WASN'T TOPLESS: But quite stylish, per Us Weekly, "On Saturday, Kate Middleton (sans husband Prince William, on duty at home in Anglesey, Wales) joined her sister Pippa and parents Carole and Michael Middleton in Oxfordshire, England. This time, one of the world's most famous brides -- and bridesmaids! -- were guests at the wedding of family friend Thierry Kelaart and Patrick Heathcote-Amory, with Kate's father even walking the bride down the aisle." http://bit.ly/SZx3NB
I SEE DEAD PEOPLE: On my computer, per Entertainment Weekly, "For those who can't wait for the return of The Walking Dead, AMC has debuted four episodes of the third season of the show's accompanying web series. The Walking Dead, Cold Storage follows a man named Chase, who seeks shelter in an abandoned storage facility." http://bit.ly/UDIHzm
