Navy Yard shooting: Navy Jazz ensemble to dedicate Friday concert to shooting victims
The Navy's jazz ensemble, called the Commodores, will perform Friday night at Yards Park in Southeast, just blocks away from the Washington Navy Yard.
According to a report by DCist, the ensemble has said it will dedicate Friday's performance to victims of Monday's shooting, which left 13 people dead including the shooter. The concert was listed on the Commodores' schedule before Monday's shooting, but musician first class Jennifer Krupa, a trombonist, told DCist that the concert has taken on a special meaning.
"We feel that music in general offers an opportunity to heal and reflect," she said. "With everything that happened on Monday, we feel that it's important for us to go out and do our jobs, and show that the Navy is a family, whether we're active duty or reservist of civilian. We can't be deterred from doing what we do and being strong.
