Kathy Lee Gifford signs on with musical in Herndon, Va.

HERNDON, Va. (WJLA) - If you're a Kathy Lee Gifford fan, here are some local dates you may want to add to your calendar.

It was announced this week that Gifford will take on a role in the cast of the fairy tale-inspired musical Into the Woods with NextStop Theatre Company in Herndon, northern Virginia.

Gifford will reportedly play the role of the voice of the Giant's wife in the production, which will run from May 1 to June 1.

NextStop's production of the Stephen Sondheim musical will be directed by the company's artistic director, Evan Hoffman, who previously worked with Gifford back in 2007.

Gifford shared her excitement over the upcoming project on NextStop's website.

“I have known Evan since he was in an early production of Saving Aimee at Signature Theatre back in 2007. So I was happy when he asked me to record the voice of the Giant’s Wife,” Gifford said.

“I love the D.C. theater community, I adore Stephen Sondheim, and I am always thrilled to help a friend who is working to achieve his dreams.”

Traditionally, the voice of the Giant's wife has been performed by several notable actresses in the past, such as Dame Judi Dench, Glenn Close and Angela Lansbury.

Into the Woods combines the iconic stories of Little Red Ridinghood, Cinderella, Rapunzel and Jack the giant killer, with the new tale of a childless baker and his wife.

Their intertwining quests into the woods result in a twistedly funny but sobering musical about the cost and consequences of “happily ever after.”

The original Broadway production garnered three Tony Awards and a Grammy, and inspired an upcoming Hollywood movie starring Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp and Anna Kendrick.

NextStop Theatre is the new, professional iteration of the beloved, longtime community theater group, the Elden Street Players.

The group performs out of the Industrial Strength Theatre, located at 269 Sunset Park Dr. in Herndon, Va.

Tickets for Into the Woods are on sale now through NextStop's website.
