Darren Young, a widely popular WWE wrestler, shocked the wrestling world Wednesday when he came out as gay during an interview with TMZ.
During the interview, which took place at the Los Angeles International Airport, Young told TMZ that he absolutely thought that a gay wrestler could prosper in WWE - because he is one.
Young is the first openly gay wrestler in WWE.
Almost immediately after Young's revelation, fellow WWE megastar John Cena expressed his unabashed support for his fellow performer.
"Darren's a great guy. That's a very bold move for him. And congratulations for him for actually finally doing it," Cena told TMZ. "If you're entertaining you shouldn't be judged by race, creed, color or sexuality."
Young is the latest prominent celebrity to come out as gay in recent months. In the sports world, both American soccer star Robbie Rogers and NBA player Jason Collins have both publicly outed themselves.
Earlier this month, television star Raven-Symoné came out as a lesbian on Twitter.
