Its awards season and celebrities and stylists alike are on the prowl for the latest designs to dress inhigh time for designers world-wide to showcase their collections.
Off the heels of the widely known Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week last week, top designers are showing off their collections locally. D.C. Fashion Week, an annual event run as a non-profit undertaking, does not disappoint in bringing glitz and glamour to the city.
D.C.a stomping ground for politicians and diplomatsbrings in designs and designers reflective of the city's cosmopolitan natureoften spotlighting both local and international designers alike. This year's fashion week, which kicked off on Monday, is showing collections from Ukrainian designers, international couture designers, as well as emerging fashion designers from local D.C. colleges and universities.
Designers are chosen for the fashion show by submitting coverage and samples of their work as well as whether they have garnered the support of local embassies, said Ean Williams, the Executive Director of D.C. Fashion Week.
While most international designers showing at D.C. Fashion Week are not supported by local embassies, The Embassy of Ukraine fully supports allowing designers to come and show during fashion week, Williams said. They host the event for D.C. Fashion Week as well as sponsor the reception when they back the designers from their particular country.
Williams himself went to the Ukraine in 2010 to search for designers that were interested in coming to the U.S. for fashion show exhibits, he said.
But, designers are also able to register and put their work up for consideration each season during the registration period.
