NFC Championship Game interrupted by Comcast commercials

While time ticked down during the 4th quarter of a tie game between the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Giants, with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line, some viewers in D.C. were seeing promos instead.

On multiple occasions during the game, which was broadcast on Fox, Comcast customers in the Washington metro area saw the cable company cut away from the game, sometimes in the middle of play, to air a promo.

D.C.'s Sports Blog Nation site has video of it happening during overtime, when the game was tied at 17.

According to John Ourand of Sports Business Journal, D.C.'s Fox 5 believes the problem is related to an equipment failure at the station.

On their @comcastcares Twitter page, the cable giant acknowledged the problem..

Customers are reporting Ad's cutting into the NFC playoff game in the D.C area. This is being looked into.

Comcast customers also took their grievance to a Comcast-hosted customer message board.

"This is the most absurd action I have ever seen in any football game of any sort," one user, 1201Frederick, said. Other mentioned that they had been offered a $10 credit on their bills.

But it seems as if the problem was initiated by the local broadcaster and not the cable company.
