ATLANTA (Sinclair Broadcast Group) - Cinnabon has apologized for a tweet it issued following the death of "Star Wars" actress Carrie Fisher on Tuesday.

Social media backlash prompted the cinnamon bun maker to delete the Twitter message, which read, "RIP Carrie Fisher, you'll always have the best buns in the galaxy."

Fisher is best remembered for her role as Princess Leia Organa in the "Star Wars" films, whose twisty hairstyles are legend. One of Princess Leia's most iconic looks features her hair wrapped in two large knots on either side of her head.

Cinnabon's tweet recreated this look, with Princess Leia's profile crafted in cinnamon and a sticky bun representing her famous hairstyle. The image was originally featured in a May 4 tweet: "Here's to the princess with the second-best rolls in the galaxy. #MayThe4thBeWithYou"

The Twitterverse was quick to condemn Tuesday's tweet, accusing Cinnabon of trying to profit off the star's death.

Other Twitter users argued Fisher, who was known for her stellar sense of humor, would've gotten a kick out of the tweet.

Cinnabon deleted its tweet and apologized: "Our deleted tweet was genuinely meant as a tribute, but we shouldn't have posted it. We are truly sorry."
