WJLA) - Based on the successful Broadway musical, "Jersey Boys" tells the behind-the-music story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

The stage show ties one energetic song after another, weaving an only-in-America story between numbers, but Clint Eastwood's movie tamps down the music and plays up the drama in bits that feel stale and clich├ęd.

John Lloyd Young won the Tony Award for the musical and it transfers well to the screen. A grand finale best-of number captures the spark most of the movie missed.

Two-and-a-half stars: A mixed result for "Jersey Boys."

This weekend, "Think Like a Man Too" nudged ahead of "22 Jump Street" at the box office.
