Arch Campbell: 'Guardians of the Galaxy' puts the comic back in comic book movies

ARLINGTON, Va. (WJLA) – “Guardians of the Galaxy” gives the space adventure movie a kick in the pants.

A group of misfits led by Chris Pratt rises to the occasion, saving the galaxy from a super bad guy with a super bad orb, and do so while bickering and bantering like a bunch of Las Vegas comics.

“Guardians of the Galaxy” tweaks the “Star Wars” formula, with Chris Pratt as an earthling-turned-scavenger, Zoe Saldana as a no-nonsense thief, Bradley Cooper as a foul-mouthed raccoon, big guy Dave Bautista as a maniac, and Vin Diesel as the voice of a giant plant. The result: great fun, worth 3.5 stars. “Guardians of the Galaxy” puts the comic back in comic book movies.

Also new at the box office this weekend is “Get On Up,” featuring Chadwick Boseman in a thrilling biography of James Brown and his music. This one gets 3.5 stars, too.

Other best bets for this weekend are “Boyhood” and “Snowpiercer.”
