'Looper' reviews positive but 'Hotel Transylvania' looks stout

Today’s week-ending roundup of the pop-culture world finds an office and a box, disturbing things, happy things, other things, and the mystery music video.

INNER OR OUTER: Of loops, per the Los Angeles Times, “(The movie) "Looper" is way inventive but it wears its creativity lightly, like it's no big deal. This is a highflying, super-stylish science-fiction thriller that brings a fresh approach to mind-bending genre material. We're not always sure where this time-travel film is going, but we wouldn't dream of abandoning the ride. Written and directed by Rian Johnson and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt, "Looper" demonstrates what a sharp and focused imagination can do when no one fences it in.”

MEANWHILE: Cartoon time, per The Hollywood Reporter, “Kids pic Hotel Transylvania -- boasting a voice cast led by Adam Sandler and Selena Gomez -- should have no trouble claiming the weekend crown, with sci-fi drama Looper expected to do solid business as well. The films should help the domestic box office recover from a tough postsummer stretch.”

LIFE AFTER TOM: Pretty cool, per People, “With her ex-husband Tom Cruise 3,500 miles away in London, Katie Holmes and 6-year-old Suri are enjoying autumn in New York, their new home town. Mom and daughter may be adjusting to their new routine – Holmes has primary custody of Suri, with visitation for Cruise – but the pair seem like longtime locals since moving to the Big Apple in June.”

SAD YARN: From all points of view, per E!, “Johnny Lewis may have been "delusional" or known to "have issues," but he was also a father. E! News confirms that the Sons of Anarchy actor, who died Wednesday and is suspected of killing his 81-year-old landlady, was also dealing with a custody battle over his child.”

STEPPING OUT: With a twang, per Us Weekly, “LeAnn Rimes was feeling batty September 27. The Grammy Award winner, 30, attended the Batman Live premiere in L.A. with her husband, Eddie Cibrian, 39, and stepsons, Mason, 9, and Jake, 5. The family outing took place nearly one month after Rimes sought treatment for anxiety and stress.”

GOOD READ: The evolution of an award-winning album, per Rolling Stone, “In the spring of 2010, Adele, Rubin and Rubin's handpicked crew of musicians – including Roots keyboardist James Poyser and guitarist Matt Sweeney (Zwan, Chavez) – converged at a Malibu studio to record Adele's fresh material. Over the course of two weeks, they cut versions of most of the songs, including a gospel-tinged take on "Someone Like You." Laughing, chatty and smoking during breaks, Adele bore down on her singing when it came time to record.”

JOHN LENNON: And Yoko, per the New York Times, “About 100 limited-edition drawings by John Lennon will be on view in a free exhibition that starts next week in SoHo. The show, “The Artwork of John Lennon,” at 130 Prince Street, is presented by Yoko Ono, Bag One Arts and Legacy Productions will benefit Citymeals-on-Wheels, a nonprofit organization that delivers meals to the homebound elderly. It runs October 5-9 In honor of what would have been Lennon’s 72nd birthday, on Oct. 9.”

YEAH, YEAH: Just the so-called facts, per Radar, “Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson's friends don't think that their reconciliation is going to last, and after the hoopla of the upcoming Twilight Saga: Part 2 Breaking Dawn promotion subsides, R-Patz will ditch his co-star for good, is exclusively reporting. "Kristen and Rob's friends absolutely don't believe that this reconciliation is going to last," a source close to the couple tells Radar.”

VROOM: Dale Earnhardt would smirk, per TMZ, “What do you get the man who has everything? Nicki Minaj figured it out ... getting Lil Wayne one of the craziest awesome gifts ever for his 30th birthday ... a tiny 3-wheeled $70,000 sports car called a T-REX. Sources close to Nicki tell TMZ, the new "American Idol" judge got Weezy a Campagna T-Rex 14R -- a two-seater motorcycle-car hybrid that's ultra-lightweight at 1,040 pounds ... and FAST, reaching speeds of 150mph.”

GHOSTLY: Hope they had protection, per Entertainment Weekly, “Ke$ha has announced that she has had illicit relations with a ghost. Just like on TV! (See: American Horror Story, Grey’s Anatomy, et al.) In an interview with Ryan Seacrest on KIIS FM, the singer revealed that her song “Supernatural” is “about experiences with the supernatural, but in a sexy way. I had a couple of experiences with the supernatural.”
