Woodrow Wilson High disqualified from Turkey Bowl
DC Public Schools disqualified Woodrow Wilson High School from participating in the Turkey Bowl, citing the team's use of an ineligible player.
A statement from DCPS Press Secretary Melissa Salmanowitz says the school system came to the decision following an investigation into the player's home residency. It was determined the player did not reside in the district, Samanowitz adds.
The student in question played in two league games; the team must also forfeit games in which the player was on the field. Forfeiting the two league games makes Wilson ineligible to compete in the Turkey Bowl, the statement explains.
"Anacostia will now play Dunbar in the Turkey Bowl on Thursday," Salmanowitz says.
Salmanowitz says the investigation began after the player was recently arrested, and media reports revealed he was a Maryland resident.
