Schools to choose beef with 'pink slime' or not served to students

The Agriculture Department is expected to announce Thursday{ }that schools will{ }be given the option to{ }choose{ }which beef to serve to students.

Officials say schools will be able to{ }choose between beef patties made with an ammonia-treated filler referred to as “pink slime” or bulk ground beef without the filler.

Some ground beef is exposed to ammonium hydroxide gas to kill bacteria.
