Prince William County cuts recess to 10 minutes to make up snow days

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY (WJLA) - Elementary schools in Prince William County have cut recess time to just 10 minutes a day in an attempt to make up for days of school missed due to snow.

Virginia law requires that elementary school students be in class 180 days or 990 hours each year, a requirement that Prince William County will meet by cutting five minutes from recess beginning Monday until the end of the year. The move has angered parents who would have preferred to see the district hold classes on Presidents Day and cancel other holidays like the Monday following Easter.
