Parents call for action after McKinley H.S. teacher's arrest

Days after police arrested a McKinley Technology High School teacher for sending and receiving explicit pictures to and from students, worried parents met at the school to express their concerns.

Science teacher John Solano, 29, was charged with producing child pornography. According to court documents, he admitted to committing the crime.

Some parents at Tuesday night's meeting say the school did not act fast enough before Solano's arrest.

Parent Cassandra Fields said, "I wanna know what they are doing about this. How long it's been going on, and how it's going to affect students?"

"This is a very prestigious school here, and one of my main concerns is how do they do their background investigation," added parent Stacey Childs.

The meeting at McKinley High was standing room only.

The contents of the explicit communications were laid out in graphic detail in charging documents. One student describes how Solano encouraged him to "take and send him two to three images of his own penis, including an explicit close-up image and two images of his own buttocks."

Parent Vicki Mayo said, "My main concern was that teachers should not be communicating with students after hours."

Parents ABC7 spoke with say changes are already being implemented when it comes to the online access teachers have with their students.
