CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. (WJLA) - The owner of Prince George's County's National Harbor development is making a $1 million donation to help improve county schools.
The money, donated by National Harbor owner Milton V. Peterson's Peterson Family Foundation, will go to the D.C.-region nonprofit organization Teach for America, and will be earmarked for the training and development of teachers in Prince George's County.
“I’m thankful for this generosity,” Kevin Maxwell, chief executive of the Prince George’s schools, told the Washington Post. “We can’t do this work by ourselves. We need our community partnerships and business partnerships to get the work done.”
The school district is reportedly facing a significant shortage of teachers.
The $1 million donation will be spread out over four years, and representatives say it could help fund the hiring of dozens of teachers.
