      Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant says working mothers led to American educational issues

      The governor of Mississippi said Tuesday that educational problems among children in the United States began when women started working en masse, the Washington Post reports.

      Speaking at a Washington Post Live event about children's reading levels, Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant said America became mediocre in the education realm when "the mom got in the workplace."

      The Post says Bryant later clarified his response, explaining that he felt that both parents are pressured so much to work.
