WASHINGTON (AP) The D.C. Public Library says it will forgive fines on overdue books and other materials as part of a new campaign.
Starting Monday, library users can go to any D.C. library branch and clear their record under the "Check It In" program. The library will forgive fines on overdue, lost or damaged books, CDs, DVDs, and other materials.
Chief Librarian Ginnie Cooper says she hopes the amnesty will encourage people to return to the library.
The program runs through Feb. 5.
