HYATTSVILLE, Md. (WJLA) - A Gallup Poll shows that common core education standards are becoming more and more unpopular as Americans learn more about them.
According to a report from EdSource.org, 60 percent of adults polled said they opposed Common Core standards. That number rose in conjunction with the number of respondents who said they knew either "a great deal" or "a fair amount" about common core. This year, 81 percent of respondents fell into one of those two groups. In a poll a year ago, two-thirds of respondents said they had not heard of Common Core.
Designed to create a common standard for students nationwide in math and english, Common Core standards have been adopted by public schools in most states, including both Maryland and the District. Virginia is one of just seven states that has not adopted the Common Core.
