Common Application causes major problems for students

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) - The College of William and Mary has extended the deadline for early decision and spring transfer admissions because students are having trouble accessing an online application form.

The Richmond Times Dispatch reports that the college extended the deadline by a week to Nov. 8.

The University of Virginia said Friday that it's monitoring the problems students are having accessing the application but has made no decision on an extension.

U.Va.'s deadline for spring transfers has passed, but the deadline is Nov. 1 for early action applications.

More than 500 colleges and universities use the form, which is called The Common Application. An updated version has caused major problems since it went live in August.
