A routine traffic stop at about 1:45 p.m. by U.S. Park Police turned into a wild police chase, a crash with the suspect's vehicle in an alley, a SWAT unit, helicopter surveillance, and a barricade outside a home in Northwest D.C. Sunday afternoon.
The suspect was eventually caught after a police cruiser crashed into his car in an alley near Gallatin and Farragut streets NW.
Only one person jumped out of the suspect vehicle. Park Police Sgt. David Schlosser said the suspect got into a struggle with officers when they exited the vehicle, then he went into the house.
Police say six adults and six children were in the house, including the suspect.
Police didn't say whether or not the suspect knew the occupants of the house, but it was not considered a hostage situation and no one was in danger, according to Schlosser.
Negotiators coaxed people into coming out of the house, but Schlosser wasn't sure of the order in which people came out.
SWAT officers entered the house for a sweep and to be sure everyone was out.
The suspect was taken into police custody and charges are expected.
Two officers sustained minor injuries.
