A 49-year-old Prince William County woman was arrested Friday morning after she allegedly tried to kidnap a child, then punched a police officer in the face.

Prince William County Police said that the incident happened before 8 a.m. on an OmniLink bus near the intersection of Main Street and Graham Park Road in Dumfries. According to county and Dumfries Town Police, 49-year-old Terrie Diane Wilder approached a 16-year-old girl on the bus and asked if she could hold her infant son.

When the teen refused, police say that Wilder grabbed a baby seat from the mother and tried to take the child. After the incident, the driver ordered Wilder off the bus, where officers encountered her near Quantico Gateway Drive.

While speaking to Wilder, police say she punched an officer in the face. The officer suffered minor injuries.

Wilder, a Triangle resident, is facing charges of attempted abduction from Prince William County Police and assault and battery on a law enforcement officer from Dumfries authorities. She is being held without bond.
