Wheaton stun gun attack shocks teen

Police in Montgomery County are investigating a Monday afternoon attack that targeted a teenage girl and her cell phone.

Montgomery County Police say the victim told investigators she was near the intersection of Prichard Road and Bucknell Drive in Wheaton at about 3:15 p.m. Monday when the suspect, allegedly after her cell phone, attacked her. During the course of the attempted robbery, police say he shocked the victim with a stun device.

Electronic shock devices are restricted in some states and in a number of jurisdictions in Maryland. However, police say that in Montgomery County, Tasers and other shock devices are legal for purchase by adults for self-defense purposes only.

It is, of course, against the law to use one as a weapon.

The suspect in this case remains at large. The victim was not seriously hurt.
