Suspect sketch released in jogger attack

      Sketch of alleged suspect

(WJLA) - Police in Gaithersburg have released a computer-aided sketch of a suspect wanted for allegedly trying to attack a teen girl with a knife at a park.

Police say the attack happened on a trail not far from the School Drive entrance of Malcolm King Park on Tuesday, May 27, at around 4:30 p.m.

Neighbors say it was only a little before a big rain storm came when a male with a knife approached the teen from behind and tried to pull her to the ground. The 17-year old victim had been jogging, and friends of her family say she is an athletic high school student who knows self-defense, and she was able to fight off the attacker while only suffering minor injuries.

With the help of the victim, police came up with a sketch of the suspect. They believe he is Hispanic, roughly five-foot-five, 150 pounds, and is also in his mid-to-late teens.

He was reportedly wearing a grey hoodie, khaki pants, and a black backpack.Several neighborhoods surround the park, and residents who use it say it is normally safe, but several people told ABC7 they only feel comfortable if they are in a group.

Several nearby residents told ABC7 the suspect sketch looked like someone they have seen hanging around the area.
