(WJLA) - Detectives returned to the Remington Apartments to look for answers. Some residents and visitors to this nearby playground were still unaware of the sex assault and robbery that took place in the neighborhood early Saturday.
Police are actively investigating two separate incidents that occurred just a half-hour and two miles apart. The first was around 5 a.m., when a 52-year-old woman visiting the complex was sitting in her car. A man knocked, opened the door, pulled out a gun, demanded her money, and then sexually assaulted her.
Then approximately 30 minutes later, police say a 62-year-old woman was approached by a man in this parking lot as she was walking into work. After a struggle, he pistol-whipped her and ran off with her purse.
Investigators say a similar attack occurred at the Remington Apartments in February, and are now trying to see whether the man in this sketch from that month is involved in these recent incidents.
For many, it's a sad and startling wake-up call, as well as a troubling sign of change around here.
