Twenty-one years after a woman was raped at gunpoint near Fort Myer, a man has been arrested and charged with the crime.
Arlington Police officials say that 50-year-old Stevie Brinson, an Alexandria resident, was taken into custody Thursday in connection with the violent rape of a college student.
Officials with Arlington's criminal investigations unit say that in June, they got a hit on new DNA evidence obtained in connection with the Jan. 28, 1992 rape. That led them to execute a warrant for the arrest of Brinson, which happened at his workplace on Thursday.
The assault happened inside an apartment on North Adams Street, where the 25-year-old victim opened her door to a man she thought was a maintenance worker. Once inside, authorities believe Brinson pulled a gun, demanded money, then bound and raped the victim.
"Cases like this are not forgotten by the Arlington County Police Department," Deputy Police Chief Daniel Murray said in a statement.
Brinson is being held without bond.
