DC police say they have cleared the scene at Howard University Tuesday afternoon after the report of a "potential shooter" prompted officers to storm the campus.

The all-clear was given after about two hours of investigation by authorities and reports on social media.

University officials said that they contacted police to investigate the campus after they were "anonymously notified of a potential shooter on campus."

A shelter in place was issued by the university as officials responded to the report.

The Hilltop, Howard University's student newspaper, tweeted that police had evacuated the "A-Building" on campus after the threat.

Video from the scene showed officers entering the a building on campus with guns.

Streets were closed on 6th Street from Fairmont Street, NW to College Street, NW. Additional closures were reported at Howard Place from Georgia Avenue to 4th Street, NW.
