Shawn Marshall Myers charged in 2004 Thanksgiving murder

Shawn Marshall Myers has been charged in the murder of Chris Mader, police said.

A second man has been charged in the murder of{ }Chris Mader on Thanksgiving Day 2004.

Shawn Marshall Myers, 33, of Waldorf, had been arrested in connection with the murder, Charles County police said.

Mader, 23, was fatally shot near the intersection of Smallwood Drive and St. Stephen's Drive as he headed home from a shift at Bennigan's, where he was a bartender.

Myers was already in jail on an unrelated charge, police said. He was charged on June 28 and remanded to the Charles County Detention Center with no bond. According to sources, Myers was the driver of the car used in the incident.

Another man, Matthew Derek Correll, of King George, Va., was arrested and indicted in October 2010. Sources say Correll was the one who shot Mader.

In April, a Charles County Grand Jury issued a five-count indictment charging Myers with first-degree murder, two counts of handgun use and violent crime, attempted robbery with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

At the time, sources told ABC7 they believe the murder stemmed from a botched robbery attempt. Detectives think 29-year-old Correll and as many as two other men followed Mader from work, ran him off the road and attempted to rob him, according to sources.
