(WJLA) - An animal rescue center in Orange County wants to know who shot and killed a beloved emu earlier this week.
The director of Rikki’s Refuge says Mary, a 12-year old emu and longtime resident of the shelter, was killed Monday by someone who trespassed onto the heavily wooded property, according to The Free Lance - Star in Fredericksburg.
Rikki's Refuge is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for Mary’s death.
An emu is an ostrich-like bird. It is the second largest bird in the world.
