Ride On bus driver accused of sexually assaulting passenger
ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP/WJLA) - Montgomery County Police say they have charged a bus driver with sexually assaulting a passenger.
Police announced Wednesday that they arrested 47-year-old Rigoberto Adonay Galindo Lemus of Olney on Jan. 9.
Police say that an adult woman told police in December she was assaulted by the driver of a Ride On bus in the area of the Shady Grove Metro station. Police say that on Dec. 12 the woman passed an out-of-service bus while walking. The driver, Lemus, allegedly invited her onboard to stay warm and inappropriately touched her while she was on the bus.
The woman escaped by pushing her way to the front door of the bus.
Fellow female commuters are taken aback by the news.
“That’s insane,” says Cheyenne Marcolina, a Ride On customer. “I could not imagine what she was going through, that’s the last thing you’d expect.”
“I have no idea why he’d do that because, as I said, they’ve never given any indication that there was anything wrong with the family,” says Mimi Pincherra, Lemus’ neighbor.
Ride On confirms Lemus’ bus was equipped with four cameras and a GPS tracking device, but police won’t say if the attack was caught on tape
Lemus is charged with two counts of second-degree assault and two counts of committing a fourth-degree sex offense. Lemus' attorney did not immediately return a telephone message Wednesday.
