Prince George's police warn of theft at the gas pump

(WJLA) - Are you standing guard at the gas pump? If not, then you could become the victim of a thief just steps away.

It's a crime of opportunity that takes just seconds. You've got your back turned while pumping gas and a thief snatches valuables from your car. Before you know it, the thief is long gone.

Since December, Prince George's County police have investigated at least 30 thefts from unlocked cars at gas stations in the county.

To prevent being a victim of theft at the pump, store valuables out of sight and in glove boxes or consoles. Police also recommend locking your car doors while at the pump.
