(WJLA) - Regulars at the Fas Mart have strong feelings about the victim of the shooting, 33-year-old Kelly Wood, who is described as upbeat, a wonderful person, and friendly.
Friends of Wood, like Tucker Garnett, having equally strong opinions about the shooter.
"He was a coward," he said. "That's exactly what he was. Anybody who shoots somebody in the back is a coward."
At 3 a.m. on March 8, a man walked to the counter at the store to buy an orange drink. He asked the clerk, Wood, for a tin of chewing tobacco. The moment she turned around, he shot her in the head, then grabbed a display case full of products containing ephedrine.
He shot Wood again in the face before taking off.
"This tells us this is a person who is desperate, who is either manufacturing or looking to make illegal drugs," explained one police officer.
With the help of Kelly Wood, who survived the attack, investigators have released a sketch of the suspect, described as white, between 25 and 40 years of age, about 5'7" and heavyset.
Wood's recovery is going well, and she is improving little by little.
