D.C. Police confirmed on Friday afternoon that the victim was pronounced dead at 2:35 a.m. The victim was identified as JaParker Jones, 23.

Jones' family is desperate for answers.

“We are hurting bad,” said family member Judean Jones. “We are in uproar. I just need someone to come forward.”

At around 8 p.m. on Thursday, a Metro Transit Police officer was flagged down by people near a bus stop near the intersection of East Capitol Street and Sycamore Road NE with a report of a person who had been stabbed.
They were transported to a hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

Jones was on her way to visit her best friend of 13 years, Darnelle Barnes.

Before leaving the family's apartment, Jones checked the bus schedule and walked just blocks to the bus stop on East Capitol and Sycamore. Barnes got a text from Jones that Jones was heading his way but then never heard from Jones again.

Whoever attacked Jones at the bus stop stabbed him in the head. Jones didn't have any ID - she died at the hospital while police worked to figure out who she was.

The next day, after watching the news, the family feared the worst. They called police and learned it was Jones.
