Robert Allen Fugate arrested after police chase from Baltimore Co. ends in Montgomery County
CHEVY CHASE, Md. (WJLA) -- A police chase Friday night began in Towson, when a man wanted on an outstanding warrant in Baltimore County took off in an SUV traveling at high speeds.
Eluding multiple police agencies, he managed to make it to Montgomery County and then into D.C., ultimately ending up back in Montgomery County.
It all finally ended in the 5400 block of Wisconsin Avenue in Chevy Chase – near upscale shops and restaurants. The chase jolted surprised diners at an outdoor patio, who weren’t quite sure what to make of it all.
The tires on the suspect’s green Jeep were completely gone – the only thing left were the rims. He was cuffed and on the ground with his head bandaged.
He appeared to be cooperating and answering questions from police officers.
A statement from the Maryland State Police on Saturday identified the man as Robert Allen Fugate, 53, of Sparrows Point, Md. It said he was "wanted on an active arrest warrant from the Baltimore County Police for three counts of assault-first degree, reckless endangerment, disturbing the peace, and hindering passage."
He was taken to a hospital in Montgomery County. When released, he will be taken to the Baltimore County Detention Center and the warrant will be served, police say.
