A 17-year-old boy has life-threatening injuries after he was shot in the head late Saturday afternoon in Annapolis, police said.

According to police, they received reports for a shooting on President Street between Van Buren and Monroe streets and found a 17-year-old boy with "at least one gun shot" wound.

Police say they believe the teen was with a group of people and was shot by someone he knew in the group. The suspect and the rest of the group is said to have fled the scene in a small blue vehicle after the shooting.

The teen was taken to a hospital where he remained by late Saturday evening with life-threatening injuries, authorities confirmed.

“This is an outrageous act of violence to a juvenile in our community,” Chief Scott Baker said in a press release. “We just met with the Eastport community on November 14th and have another meeting scheduled for January 16th. We urge community members to come to that meeting and work together on these serious issues of crime and safety.”

Police say there is no threat to the community and ask that anyone with information call them at (410) 260-3439.
