A 12-year-old boy was charged after making threats to the Lake Ridge Middle School in Woodbridge on Tuesday, the Prince William County Police Department reported.

Authorities say around 12:30 p.m. a school resource officer received "information of a potential threat." Shortly after, police say a student reported they had heard another student make "statements suggesting violence at the school" earlier that morning.

The boy was charged with "knowingly communicating a false threat to damage a building."
