PGPD helicopter catches three thieves in the act

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WJLA) - Three thieves are caught in the act, thanks to alert eyes in the air.

A Prince George’s County Police helicopter was patrolling the skies when officers spotted a car driving without its lights on. The unit followed the car, and with cameras rolling, caught three men breaking into an auto repair business in Forestville.

Shop owner Joey Abbott says his business has been targeted by burglars nearly every week for the past two years – which is why at approximately 3 a.m. early Friday morning, the helicopter was on patrol overhead.

Using an infrared camera, the crew watched the clueless criminals go from car to car, looking for things to steal with no idea they were being watched.

The three men were arrested on the scene.
