Overnight police chase leads to shooting

(WJLA) - An armed carjacking in Montgomery County early Saturday morning ended in a police chase and a shootout in D.C., sending three people to the hospital.

The chase began about 2:30 a.m. when a U.S. Park Police officer noticed a black Jeep matching the description of a car involved in an armed carjacking in Chevy Chase, police say.

The driver of the Jeep fled from officers, refused to stop for an attempted traffic stop, and later crashed at the intersection of Bladensburg Road and New York Avenue NE. Gunfire was exchanged, wounding three passengers. Five people were in the Jeep.

A gun was recovered from the Jeep.

Three occupants of the Jeep have non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, police say.
