Eleven vehicles catch fire at Watkins Regional Park
KETTERING, Md. (WJLA) - Nearly a dozen vans and buses were either heavily damaged or totaled Wednesday morning in a suspected act of arson in Prince George's County.
Eleven cars and fans were involved in the fire, which was reported at about 5 a.m. in a parking lot at Watkins Regional Park in Kettering.
The fire began, authorities believe, when the person who stole a Cadillac set it on fire in the parking lot, Prince George's County Fire spokesman Mark Brady says. He says that high winds helped spread the fire to other vehicles.
Nine of those vehicles are considered to be totaled, while the 10th suffered some damage as well. All of those vehicles were commissioned buses or vans with Watkins Region Park. Two were brand new.
The parking lot is outside of what's called the central area office building. Investigators are reviewing footage from security cameras which were positioned outside the building.
