Metro reports rise in robberies

Metro says it has seen an increase of robberies in the first three months of this year, The Washington Post reports. The one thing thieves target the most? Your iPhone.

Robberies are up 36 percent with 121 incidents from January to March. There were 89 incidents during the same time period last year. Twenty-nine percent of the 121 robberies involved iPhone thefts.

Younger thieves are robbing victims of brand name jackets and expensive shoes, Metro Transit Police Chief Ron Pavlik says.

Pavlik says robberies are not occurring on one particular line, but L'Enfant Plaza and Gallery Place are hot spots.

There has also been a rise in crime on buses with 11 more incidents in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2012.
