Prince George's police officer kills man who fired at police behind barricade

A man who was threatening suicide was shot and killed by a Prince George’s County police officer when he emerged from his home and fired in the direction of police who had set up a barricade.

Police later identified the man as Phillip Charles Boling, 49, of the 21000 block of Aquasco Road,

Police were called around 6:15 p.m. Friday to the home on a report that the man, alone in his house, was threatening to kill himself and was armed with a handgun.

After the man shot his handgun at the officers and refused all communication, a barricade situation was set up, police say.

A short time later, the came out of the home, confronted the officers, and refused the officers' commands to put his weapons down, police say.

Fearing for his safety and the safety of other officers on the scene, a patrol officer shot the man.

The man was transported to to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The officer, an 11-year veteran of the department assigned to the Bureau of Patrol, has been placed on administrative leave in accordance with departmental policy.
