Man arrested and charged with attempted rape in Woodbridge

WOODBRIDGE, Va. (WJLA) - Prince William County Police have charged a man named Jaguar with trying to rape a woman at a popular Woodbridge shopping center, even though the woman's boyfriend and customers were nearby.

Police arrested 20-year old Jaguar Williams-Palmer Friday night at the Potomac Festival shopping center. He is being held without bond.

Police say as a 19-year old woman and her boyfriend were walking into the HH Gregg electronics store a little before 6:15 Friday night, Jaguar allegedly ran up with his pants around his knees, tackled the woman to the ground, got on top of her, and tried to rape her.

Witnesses then reportedly pulled Jaguar off of the victim. He was later arrested and charged with attempted rape.

Police say the woman was rattled but not injured.

The shopping center where the attack allegedly happened is on Potomac Mills Road near I-95 in a very busy area of Woodbridge with many stores and restaurants.

Residents who frequent the area say they normally consider it safe.

"A lot of neighborhoods in Woodbridge are very, very safe, so this is kind of out of character," said Sidi Sheriff, who says he frequents the shopping center where police say the attack happened.

Police say they are investigating whether Jaguar was under the influence when he allegedly tried to rape the woman.

"I can't think of anybody in their right mind trying that on someone," said Woodbridge resident Alicia McCoy. "I mean, I know there's some really crazy, deranged people in this world, but that takes the cake."

Prince William County Police say Jaguar Williams-Palmer has a court date set for January 14.
